Kym Master's Story of Daring Faith at Saddleback Church

http://www.saddleback.com/DaringFaith – Last December, Kym Masters felt like she was up against a wall. A single mom of two college students, she looked down at the tuition and medical bills in her hands, and looked at her bank account balance. It didn’t add up. There was no way she could make ends meet. Where would the money come from? And then, despite the fear and hopelessness she felt, Kym decided to give away 10 percent of her salary.

Kym had been married for seven years when her husband left her with their two young children. She decided soon after their divorce that she wouldn’t date until her kids were grown up. That meant that she would be solely responsible for providing for them. She and her son both have Type 1 diabetes, and he has had several serious medical episodes. It was a heavy load to bear alone.

“I didn’t trust anyone. I couldn’t,” says Kym. “As a single mom, that’s just the way it was. I said I trusted God, but my actions didn’t reflect that. But I began to realize I needed to change. Like Pastor Rick says, faith is nothing without action.”

It was a Sunday in December, while still desperately searching for a way to pay the bills, when Kym was challenged to put her faith into action. “Pastor Rick started talking about the upcoming Daring Faith series. He said, ’Get ready for a miracle.’ And I thought, ‘That’s what I need! I need a miracle!’ So I decided that day to start tithing ten percent.”

After Kym began tithing, the pieces started falling into place. God provided the means for her to pay the bills. “It’s not like I won the lottery, but God made a way.”

As Kym begins to think about next semester’s tuition and the inevitable future medical bills, emotion fills her voice. “I know he will provide. I know God will continue to provide in the future. He’s already provided before, and I trust him.” And now, for Kym, she doesn’t merely say she trusts in God. Her actions prove that faith.
